“There are no passengers on spaceship earth, we are all crew. -Marshall McLuhan
This jacket is maybe my favorite of anything ever. If I could stick myself in a shrinker to wear it — I would!
I squealed when I found this jacket at the Haight Street Goodwill — I just knew what it was meant to be! The original design on it was done in a weaving village in Thailand by Isan Gallery, its the hand embroidered earth surrounded by children and animals. From what I’ve found online, this was a design that was sold to help children with special needs (in the design you can see there is a child in a wheelchair, another on a crutch, some kids with blue hair, a smiling pine tree, a friendly liger — as well as some other animals and a palm tree for good measure). As a huge fan of both Bucky Fuller (who coined the phrase “Spaceship Earth”) and Marshall McLuhan (who the quote on the jacket is attributed to) I knew this jacket was meant to reverberate that sentiment and be an heirloom for whatever blessed child receives this to wear and keep forever.
Vintage Levi’s jacket, 100% cotton denim in a nice spring/summer weight. All embroidery is done by hand and the Earth appliqué was stitched by machine for durability.
This is a children’s size 4. One of a kind. Two real hip pockets and faux chest pockets with Levi’s buttons.
